Safe handling

Toxicology of this phase cannot be extrapolated from metallic ruthenium or barium oxide. The solubility of barium compounds affects the risk, and acid may alter the form of the material; follow the SDS. Work under local exhaust, avoid dust generation, dry sweeping, and eye contact. This Ru(IV) oxide is not volatile RuO4. The formation of the strong oxidizer RuO4 should be assessed separately for operations with strong oxidizers or oxidative heating. Collect waste as barium- and ruthenium-containing.
