Supported palladium and rhodium catalysts on a carbon carrier are designed for catalytic hydrogenation reactions of organic compounds. This product card presents compositions of 10% Pd/C, 5% Rh/C, and 5% Pd/C.

For this product, applications in the synthesis of diisopropylhydrazine at temperatures of 30–80 °C and pressures up to 6 MPa are indicated. The appropriate composition, catalyst loading, pack size, and process parameters must be coordinated with a technical specialist.

Role of the Material in the Process

The catalyst is selected for a specific transformation, feedstock composition, and unit operating mode. The active component, support, and preparation method together determine the availability of active sites. Therefore, specifying the metal or trade name does not guarantee identical activity and selectivity in different processes.

Selection Criteria

When comparing options, the content and chemical form of the active component, support type, particle size, moisture, impurities, and pre-activation method should be clarified. For industrial processes, mechanical strength, pressure drop, and resistance to feedstock components are also important.

Preparation and Testing

Before scaling up, the material should be tested under conditions close to operating conditions: with the same feedstock, at comparable temperature, pressure, and contact time. The drying, reduction, calcination, or other activation program should be selected according to documentation. Results can only be correctly compared when using the same loading and product analysis methodology.

Stability and Operation

The performance of the catalytic system can be affected by water, sulfur compounds, salts, heavy impurities, coking, and overheating. Acceptable contaminants, signs of deactivation, and the possibility of regeneration should be clarified for the specific grade. Spent material should be collected separately and handled considering the composition of the active component.
