Chloroplatinic acid (hydrogen hexachloroplatinate(IV)) is an inorganic compound of platinum, presented as orange-yellow crystals.

Some properties:

molar mass — 409.81 g/mol;
density — 2.431 g/cm³;
melting point — 60 °C;
highly soluble in water, ethanol, diethyl ether, chloroform;
mass fraction of platinum — 37.5–38.1%.

Preparation: Chloroplatinic acid is obtained by dissolving platinum in aqua regia, in hot concentrated hydrochloric acid with the addition of chlorine, or by electrolysis of hydrochloric acid in the presence of a platinum anode.

Applications: Used in analytical chemistry for the analysis of alkali metals, in organic chemistry, in oil and gas extraction, for the production of exhaust gas filter-neutralizers in the automotive industry, for electroplating, and in laboratory practice.

When working with the acid, protective measures must be observed: use protective clothing, protect skin and eye mucosa. For storage, use a sealed glass container, and the location should be shaded and away from other substances.
