Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium

«Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium» is an inorganic complex compound of palladium and triphenylphosphine with the formula Pd[P(C6H5)3]4.

Some properties:

forms yellow crystals;
is unstable in air;
is insoluble in hydrocarbons and cold ethanol;
is poorly soluble in tetrahydrofuran, acetone, diethyl ether;
is moderately soluble in benzene and dichloromethane.
Applications: catalyst in organic synthesis. Used in the synthesis of complex organic molecules, including pharmaceuticals and materials for electronics. Also used in research on the development of new organic semiconductors and photosensitive materials with enhanced efficiency.

Preparation: reaction of palladium(II) chloride, triphenylphosphine, and hydrazine in dimethyl sulfoxide.

Safety: when handling tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium, personal protective equipment including safety goggles, gloves, and clothing must be used. Work should be carried out in a well-ventilated area or under a fume hood. The compound should be stored away from heat sources and open flame, and isolated from moisture and air exposure.
